Regarding World War II. After surviving 47 days from a plane crash in the jungles of New Guinea in 1945 where 21 of the 24 passengers were killed, Cpl. Margaret Hastings story was reported around the world. Her hometown of Owego still remembers the WAC from Shangri-La.
