On the occasion of the Sesquicentennial of the City of Quetzaltenango, on October 29, 1975, the President of the Republic General Kjell Eugenio Laugerud Garcia, ordered the construction of this monument in Xelaju, cradle of the best marimbas of the world and outstanding composers and performers.
