Con motivo del Sesquicentenario de la Ciudad de Quetzaltenango, el 29 de octubre de 1975, el Presidente de la Republica General Kjell Eugenio Laugerud Garcia, dispuso la construcción de este monumento en Xelaju, cuna de las mejores marimbas del mundo y destacados compositores y ejecutantes

Laugerud Administration of 1974-1978
On the occasion of the Sesquicentennial of the City of Quetzaltenango, on October 29, 1975, the President of the Republic General Kjell Eugenio Laugerud Garcia, ordered the construction of this monument in Xelaju, cradle of the best marimbas of the world and outstanding composers and performers.
