1. The Bush Declaration of 1775
The first Declaration of Independence in the Americas was signed by an elected committee of 34 citizens of Harford County, Maryland, in Harford Town, also known as Bush, on March 22, 1775. It read, “ We the Committee of Harford County, having most Seriously and maturely Considered the Resolves & Association of the Continental Congress, and the Resolves of the Provintial Convention, do most heartily approve of the closing, and as we Esteem ourselves in a more particular manner intrusted by our Constituents to see them Carried into Execution, we do most Solemnly pledge ourselves to Each Other & to our Country, and Engage ourselves by Every Thing held Sacred among Mankind to perform the Same at the Risque of our Lives and fortunes.”  It was signed a few weeks before the battles of Lexington and Concord in Massachusetts which are considered the beginning of the American Revolution.

Harford Town was located on the Philadelphia Road between present-day Joppatowne and Aberdeen.
