2. Benjamín Carrión Marker
The marker is just to the right of a statue of Benjamín Carrión awaiting a chess challenger. The statue is by the Mexican sculptor Pedro Filiberto Ramírez Ponzanelli and was unveiled on May 24, 2011. Inscribed on the wall behind the statue is a quote from Carrión, it reads:

Seamos una gran potencia de cultura porque para eso nos autoriza y alienta nuestra historia.

English translation:
We will be a great cultural power, because that is authorized and strengthened by our history.
