Frederick Catherwood y John Stephens fueron dos viajeros ingleses quienes llegaron a Yucatán con la intención de explorar y conocer las ciudades prehispánicas. En sus recorridos, el primero tomó apuntes e hizo registros gráficos de los vestigios arqueológicos, pirámides y esculturas monumentales.
En 1843 John Stephens publícó el libro de viajes, Incidentes de un viaje a Yucatán, ilustrado con las litografías de Catherwood, cuyo trabajo dio a conocer al mundo entero las imágenes de los monumentos prehispánicos de la región. En la casa Catherwood se encuentra una exhibición única en la República Mexicana con las históricas litografías del viajero inglés.
Catherwood House
This house is dedicated to Frederick Catherwood, with an exhibition of historic lithographies which is unique in the Mexican Republic and which depict the English traveler who collaborated with John Stephens on the book titled Incidents de un viaje a Yucatan (Incidents of a trip to Yucatan). This book was published in 1843 and presented the images of the pre-Hispanic monuments of the region to the whole world.
