“Payo Enriquez de Rivera”

Vigesimo séptimo Virrey de la Nueva España, Arzobispo de Mexico, Obispo de Guatemala y Michoacan y Presidente del Consejo de Indias. Llego a la Bahia de Chetumal el 30 de junio de 1681, dando su nombre al caserio que se encontraba en la desembocadura del Rio Hondo, conocido como Payo Obispo hoy Chetumal.

Payo Enríquez de Rivera
Twenty-seventh Viceroy of New Spain, Archbishop of Mexico, Bishop of Guatemala and Michoacán and President of the Council of the Indies. He arrived at Chetumal Bay on June 30, 1681, giving his name to the small village at the mouth of the Rio Hondo, known then as Payo Obispo and today as Chetumal.
