1. Highway Enterprise Marker
Inscription. Highway Enterprise. Lincoln Highway Heritage Corridor. In the early 1900s two local boys made a name for themselves in the automobile world. Chester (Chet) and Clayton Karns of Everett were pioneers in the automobile industry. The American Automobile Association (AAA) recognized the brothers as the first automobile dealers in Pennsylvania. Their garage was a combination of car sales and repair work; a drum of gas and oil could always be found on the sidewalk outside their garage. It was kept handy for the few car owners who traveled the Lincoln Highway through Everett. Chet's mechanical knowledge paid off in 1904 when he designed and built his own version of a "horseless carriage." This vehicle, known as the Karns Kar, needed financial backing for mass production. Unfortunately for Chet, his competition was Henry Ford! . This historical marker is in Everett in Bedford County Pennsylvania
