With land speed record runs on these sands ended, a new type of speed event began here when stock cars raced on 3.2 mile beach–road course. 27 starters ran south on paved road A1A and north of the beach, struggling through a turn at each end, as north turn was completely cluttered with disabled stock cars stuck in soft sand.
