1. Beginning of Stock Car Racing Marker
Inscription.  With land speed record runs on these sands ended, a new type of speed event began here when stock cars raced on 3.2 mile beach–road course. 27 starters ran south on paved road A1A and north of the beach, struggling through a turn at each end, as north turn was completely cluttered with disabled stock cars stuck in soft sand.
 
Location. 29° 13.727′ N, 81° 0.463′ W. Marker is in Daytona Beach, Florida, in Volusia County. Marker can be reached from N Atlantic Avenue 0.1 miles from Main St. Marker located beachside near Daytona Beach Pier. The best way to see this marker is to park in the parking garage on the west side of Atlantic Avenue. Walk over the pedestrian bridge on the second floor, keep walking past the shops and restaurants toward the ocean. The marker is a distance on the right. Touch for map.
