1. Those Illustrious Browns Marker
Orphaned at age seven, Henry C. Brown worked on a farm in Ohio where he learned carpentry. In 1860, Brown moved to Denver and set up shop. He went on to become one of Denvers most important early developers. He donated land for the State Capitol, and he built the Brown Palace Hotel. Toward the end of his life, the Silver Panic of 1893 robbed him of his fortune. He spent the remainder of his days at the Brown Palace.
The name of the Brown Palace Hotel has nothing to do with the Unsinkable Molly Brown of Titanic fame.
