Lititz in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania — The American Northeast (Mid-Atlantic)
Fern Island
In the mid 1800's, trees were planted and walkways were added. A section of the stream to the east of the head end was dammed and widened and a small island was formed. Water flowed on each side of the island. Native ferns growing in the surrounding wooded areas were transplanted in the new "fern bed." At the turn of the century, it was very popular to have friends photographed together at the "love little water garden in the park."
