1. Grettenberger Pump Marker
Inscription. One of approximately 200 pumps manufactured in Tidioute at a machine shop located near the mouth of Gordon Run. The pumps were invented around 1916 by Fred Grettenberger and the majority of the parts were patterned and machined by Fred and his sons, Bill, Charlie and George. Most of the pumps were sold in Pennsylvania, but one was shipped to Oklahoma. The pumps utilize a vacuum/suction principle to both draw from the ground as well as transport it to and from storage tanks. They are usually belt driven powered by a separate engine and a large wooden wheel.
