1. Needmore Community Marker
Inscription. The Needmore Community, one of Starkville's earliest African American neighborhoods, was first settled in the late 1800s with the construction of the Gulf, Mobile and Ohio Railroad. Having a number of homes, churches and businesses, Needmore was once a thriving residential and business community. Encompassing Cherry, Demorest, Fellowship, Gillespie, Hancock, Jarnigan, Russell. Spring, Muldrow, and Vine Streets, this community was annexed by the city of Starkville in 1872.
