1. The Monterrey Casino Marker
A finales del siglo XIX la vida social de nuestra ciudad fue cobrando importancia, así como también el crecimiento de su población. Es cuando surge la necesidad de fundar un centro social, que permitirá reuniones sociales con cierta frecuencia y que fungiera como sede de importantes y memorables eventos.
En 1864 destacadas personalidades establecieron una sociedad a la que llamaron “Casino de Monterrey.” Los esfuerzos por establecer este centro social se vieron ensombrecidos durante la guerra de la Intervención francesa bajo el imperio de Maximiliano de Habsburgo en que se creó una época de inestabilidad, motivo que dificultaba la subsistencia de esta sociedad en aquella época.
En 1867 los precursores de esta iniciativa reanudan esfuerzos por mantener las actividades sociales y de convivencia. Una década después, el 4 de diciembre de 1878 queda legalmente constituido de acuerdo con el “Acta de Instalación” en que se formalizaron los estatutos y objetivos que definirían el futuro de lo que hoy conocemos como Casino de Monterrey.

En la segunda década del siglo XX en 1918, durante la presidencia de Don José A. Muguerza, se pactó la construcción de un nuevo edificio debido a siniestros ocurridos años atrás, aprobándose el proyecto del arquitecto Alfredo Giles. La primera piedra fue colocada el 27 de septiembre de 1921, inaugurando el predio el 31 de diciembre de 1922 siendo presidente del Casino Don Jesús Ferrara.
Ente sus visitantes se encuentran Ex Presidentes, Jefes de Estado, miembros de la realeza europea así como reconocidos artistas, intelectuales y científicos de fama mundial de la época.
Este edificio de líneas neoclásicas de principios del siglo XX es considerado monumento histórico de la ciudad. Sus ventanales

2. The Monterrey Casino Marker English text
Casino de Monterrey
In the late nineteenth century the social life of our city was taking importance, as well as population growth. It is when the need arises to establish a social center, allowing some social gatherings and often serve as host of important and memorable events.
In 1864 a group of prominent individuals established a society called “Casino de Monterrey.” Efforts to set down this center were overshadowed during the war of the French intervention under the empire of Maximilian of Hapsburg, at that time there was instability, making living difficult in this society.
In 1867 the precursors of this initiative renew efforts to maintain social activities and coexistence. A decade later, on December 4, 1878 is legally constituted the “Act of Installation”, which formalized rules and objectives that would define the future of what we now know as the Casino de Monterrey.
The place, it now occupies was acquired in 1887, after been established in several spots and also were used houses, property of partners to celebrate events. The construction of the first building was carried out by the administration that

In the second decade of the twentieth century, in 1918 during the presidency of Jose A. Muguerza, was agreed to build a new building because of a fire occurred years ago, finally it was approved a building project made by the architect Alfredo Giles. The first stone was laid on September 27, 1921, the opening was on December 31, 1922 being president of the Casino Don Jesus Ferrara.
Between some former visitors there are ex Presidents, Heads of State, members of European royalty as well as artists, intellectuals and world fame at the time.
This neoclassical building line of the early twentieth century is considered a historical monument in the city. Its windows, columns and ornamental details, as well as the unique design, even with the years have been maintained with the touch of splendour that characterizes it. (Marker Number 13.)
