Inscription.  On this site stood the home of General Alfred T. A. Torbert who served his country in the War Between the States and later as Consul General at Paris. The building was erected circa 1825 by Benjamin Wadhams for a tavern and later was remodeled for a dwelling.
 
Location. 38° 54.928′ N, 75° 25.712′ W. Marker is in Milford, Delaware, in Kent County. Marker is at the intersection of Northwest 2nd Street and North Walnut Street (County Road 20), on the left when traveling west on Northwest 2nd Street. Touch for map.
