The UH-1 Iroquois, nicknamed Huey, was a straightforward single-engine design with a crew of two pilots and a crew chief/door gunner. In combat, the Huey flew three distinct missions as "slicks" (troop transports), "gunships" (armed battleship helicopters), and "dust-offs" (medical evacuation aircraft).
Second generation Hueys were bigger and more powerful. They were designed for rapid, simultaneous entry from both sides of the larger-volume cabin. Increased in size by approximately 12 percent, the UH-1N was a significant improvement to a design that was already proving itself in combat. With the arrival of this second generation, the Huey proved itself as the most versatile and best-known helicopter of all time.
With aircraft still serving in large numbers around the world, many are finding their way onto the second hand civilian market.
