Regarding Monument to the University's Victims and Martyrs. The monument gives tribute to the students and others killed on July 30, 1975 during a march along nearby Avenida 25. The march was in protest of the Salvadoran government's restrictive policies against the university community. An unknown number of protesters were killed by government forces, with an estimate of at least 100 normally given. This and other actions would lead to the Salvadoran Civil War of 1979-1992.
