1845-1896
Descendant of Alfonso I of Spain, also a 4th generation descendant of Don Manuel Andres Lopez Y Armesto, educated at Univ. of Madrid and sent by King to Spanish La. to set up Spanish schools. French colonists resisted Spanish culture and project failed, but Armesto became member of the Cabildo and for 20 yrs. influential secretary of the Spanish colonial governors. Three generations of Armesto's son, Andres, lived at plantation 9mi. below Baton Rouge until a crevasse in levee in 1940 destroyed their home.
