Delmar Loop in University City in St. Louis County, Missouri — The American Midwest (Upper Plains)
What's in a Name?
Loop Trolley
— University City Library —
The Delmar Loop got its name from the original streetcar system that "looped" through University City. Traveling westbound, streetcars would divert north from Delmar Boulevard to Enright Avenue and then turn south from Kingsland to complete the terminal "Loop" before returning eastbound to Downtown St. Louis.
The Loop has been an important part of University City's history. Today, the Loop Trolley honors St. Louis' streetcar past with its own terminal station stop at the University City Library.
Erected by The Loop Trolley Company.
