1. Dioscorides Garden Marker
Inscription. These herbs planted here are a representative selection from plants listed about 60 A.D by the Greek physician, Dioscorides. The modern science of pharmacology is traced back to his efforts to list systematically the plants that were used for medicine. His list, De Materia Medica, was used as a basis for early herbals and is still referred to in the 20th century.
