1. USNTC Bainbridge Marker
Inscription. Named for Commodore William Bainbridge, who served in the Barbary Wars and the War of 1812. The U.S. Naval Training Center Bainbridge operated for 34 years. Beginning in 1942 as a recruit training command for World War II, and closing in 1976. The complex was a mustering-out facility, and provided Naval Reserve, Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service (WAVES) and other specialized training. The U.S. Naval Academy Preparatory School was housed in the former Tome School for Boys.
