school project for children was approved by Friar Antonio Alcalde, Bishop of Guadalajara, in January 1774. The school began to function in April of that year and its first teacher was José Antonio Velarde. In 1816 it was handed over to the local City Council due to the lack of funds to maintain it, and the City Council, also for economic reasons, leased the place in 1820 to Miguel Rruchúa, who returned to establish a private school on the property, which was already poorly maintained by then.

By 1826, the property was rescued again by the City Council, recovering the deeds and paying off existing debts.

The rescue of the property was carried out by José María Guzmán, political leader of the party between 1826 and 1830. By 1832 a medallion with the name of Francisco de Rivera y Gutiérrez was placed in the new premises and during the course of this century began to be known as "School of Christ."

In May 1835 Aguascalientes separated from the state of Zacatecas, becoming an autonomous department and its authorities then set about improving the property. By 1837 they proudly described it as one of their great works. The School worked until 1907, the year in which it was changed and the property was leased to Walter Eikel, to be part of his hardware and haberdashery store known as "La Estrella." The negotiation was acquired by the company of Enrique Reyes and

Rafael Villegas. In 1925 "La Estrella" was only in the hands of the first owner, to become the "King’s House." In the mid-twentieth century, the estate was collected by the State Government to install the Monte de Piedad branch there. Afterwards it was once again occupied by another hardware store, to finally serve as a shoe store's warehouse until 2002, when the building was expropriated by the State Government to create a museum and a cultural center.
