Inscription. Sojourner-Douglass College was established in 1972, in Baltimore, Maryland as the Homestead Montebello Center of Antioch College. The idea was conceived under the leadership of the first president, Dr. Charles W. Simmons, in response to the community's desire for self-determination. The college's name was adopted in honor of two abolitionists, Sojourner Truth and Frederick Douglass.
