1970
Hagerstown's first network-affiliated television station, WHAG, begins broadcasting on January 3. It was affiliated with the National Broadcasting Company (NBC).
1971
In June, a regional history magazine begins publishing under the title The Maryland Cracker Barrel.
1974
Valley Mall, the first enclosed regional shopping mall in Washington County, opens for business on August 15th.
1986-89
Hagerstown annexes large tracts of land southwest and east of the city and constructs Wesel Boulevard and Eastern Boulevard to spur commercial development.
