Inscription.
The Benjamin Rush Medicinal Plant Garden is named in honor of Benjamin Rush (1746-1813), a signer of the Declaration of Independence and one of the founders of The College of Physicians of Philadelphia. At the time of the founding of the College in 1787 Dr. Rush proposed to maintain "… a garden of simples [herbs] to physick the citizens of Philadelphia."

The garden was established in 1937 and contains more than sixty varieties of medicinal herbs.
