Inscription. Bascom S. Waugh was the first African-American physician at Cooper University Hospital, a specialist in Internal Medicine and later in Cardiology. He served during World War II and was a flight surgeon for the 332nd Fighter Group, the legendary Tuskegee Airmen. Dr. Waugh was the first African-American president of the Camden County Heart Association and practiced in South Camden until his death at the age of 83.
