Inscription. Lewis L. Coriell was a charismatic physician, scientist, and humanitarian. He established the critical technology needed to produce the vaccine to eradicate polio, in addition to many other pioneering techniques used in laboratories today. In 1953, Dr. Coriell founded the Coriell Institute for Medical Research in Camden, which maintains the world's most diverse collection of human cells and DNA used for scientific research.
