Dedicated October 28, 2000

Cancer Survivors Park is a tangible tribute to
everyone who has been touched by cancer.
The hand-painted tiles were created by cancer
survivors from Northeastern Pennsylvania and
the engraved brick pavers were sponsored by
local residents in honor or in memory of a loved
one. The park is a dynamic project: newly painted
tiles and additional pavers will continue to be
added over time.

The park represents a true community
partnership to honor the Family of Survivors.

Rededicated May 22, 2010

The Cancer Survivors Park was revitalized in
a partnership between the Northeast Regional
Cancer Institute, Leadership Lackawanna and
Lackawanna County. The nature of the climate
in Northeastern Pennsylvania made the original
design of the park unsustainable. In order to ensure
that this space remained a fitting tribute to those
who have been touched by cancer, the Leadership
Lackawanna Class of 2009 volunteered to refurbish
the park. With

the addition of new benches
and landscape work, the park now serves as a
permanent contemplative space for the community
to take inspiration from the courage of all cancer
survivors. Special thanks are given to Sean Byrne
Construction for completing the revitalization work.
