1. Smart's Foundry Marker
Inscription. One of Brockville's most significant industrial complexes stood on the southern part of this park from about 1862 until 1961. Founded by James Smart in the 1850s, it was later incorporated as the James Smart Manufacturing Co. Ltd and was controlled by John and James Gill. By 1910 the company was employing over 400 people in the manufacturing of all kinds of cast metal products. Items manufactured included stoves, water pumps, builders hardware, school desks, and tools.
