Sickle Bar Mower. . This is an International Harvester Sickle Bar Mower from around 1900. It was originally designed to be horse drawn but this particular piece was modified in later years to be tractor drawn. These mowers were used to cut the hay on the many farm fields of the Cutting estate. The new mown hay was left to dry in the fields and then was picked up by the hay rake, loaded onto wagons and transported to the hay loft of the barn opposite this display. It was stored here and used throughout the winter as food for the dairy herd. This mower has the blade in the up position for transporting. .
