St. Croix National Scenic Riverway
Vice President Walter Mondale, co-sponsor of the National Wild and Scenic Rivers Act
You are standing in a national park! The St. Croix was one of the original rivers to be designated by Congress as a National Wild and Scenic River in 1968.
The St. Croix is rich in biodiversity, home to black bears and river otters, brook trout and sturgeon, bald eagles and trumpeter swans. Its forested bluffs offer habitat for migratory songbirds, while its waters harbor rare dragonflies and 41 species of mussels.
In the midst of a changing landscape, this river still recalls its wild origins. It is a jewel in our care.
