1. The Old Woman's Home Marker
Inscription. On Dec. 17, 1891, the Tenn. legislature granted a charter establishing the Old Woman's Home "for the care and protection of aged and helpless women." In 1909, the women moved from 136 Cherry St. (4th Ave) to a new home at 2817 West End Ave. Later renamed The West End Home for Ladies, it was home to hundreds of elderly women until it was demolished in 1984. The West End Home Foundation continues this legacy of enriching the lives of older adults through grantmaking and advocacy.
