Regarding Ted Drewes Frozen Custard, St. Louis, Missouri. Ted Drewes originally opened his frozen custard stand in St. Petersburg, Florida. It wasn't until 1930 that he would expand his business to St. Louis, opening more locations. In 1959, his signature "concrete" (which is a malt or shake so thick that it is served upside down) was introduced. Today, there are two locations (Chippewa and South Grand, both in St. Louis). It is still a family-owned business, as Drewes' son (Ted Jr.) took over after his fathers' death in 1968. Ted Jr. would retire in 1997, but would continue to be the face behind the marketing until his death in 2024. The place also specializes in selling Christmas trees in the winter.
