1. American Defenders of Bataan & Corregidor Marker
Inscription.

Dedicated to the
American Defenders of Bataan & Corregidor

The Valiant men and women, both living and dead, who gallantly
fought against over whelming odds defending the Philippine Islands
from invading Japanese forces, for five months, at the outbreak of
World War II. Stopping the invasion of Australia. Giving the Allied forces
time to prepare for War in the Pacific.

With broken Heart and head bowed in sadness but not in shame, I report, that today I must arrange terms for the surrender of Manila Bay. Please say to the nation that my troops and I have accomplished all that is humanly possible and that we have upheld the best tradition of the United States and its armed forces. With profound regret and with continued pride in my gallant troops, I go to meet the Japanese Commander.
Gen Johnathon M Wainwright, USA
