1. George Washington's Forest Marker
Inscription.
In the 18th century, George Washington's Mount Vernon property included Dogue Run Farm, Muddy Hole Farm, River Farm, Union Farm, and Mansion House Farm, where you are now. As the map illustrates, more than half of this 8,000-acre property was native woodland. The Forest Trail and surrounding area represent a small example of that great expanse.

Explore the Forest Trail and discover:
• The forest's importance to the Mount Vernon plantation
• What type of animals and birds inhabited the wooded areas during Washington's time
• Who lived here before the Washington family
• What type of activities took place in the forest
• What grew in the forest
• How the forest changed in the past 200 years

and much more!
