Inscription. Built in 1907 for O'Fallon physician Herman T. Bechtold, this building originally housed Samuel E. McGeehon's Grocery & Hardware store until 1926 when it became the home of the Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co. (A & P) through 1940. O'Fallon's first self service store, First Street Market, later popularly known as Keck's Tom Boy, operated here from 1944 to 1960.
