Inscription. Walter Hillman and Consider Parish led a congregation of former slaves in forming Pleasant Green Baptist Church in 1870. The church, under Reverend Dunbar, met in the Mississippi College chapel before relocating to a lot east of the chapel. The church later moved to East College Street. African American families buried their dead in a separate plot owned by the Clinton Cemetery Association until 1928 when they gained ownership of black-only Cedar Grove Cemetery.
