More about this marker. The Crater Lake DAR Chapter website highlights this marker and says the following:

Erected in 1939, the marker called attention to early travel by stagecoach from Jacksonville to Rock Point near Gold Hill. The 13-mile road is the oldest in Jackson County. In May 2003, the marker was moved to a county built turnout and view point (from its original location). The (original) marker read: "Along this road passed the early day travel of Oregon." Thomas R. Burnett, age 82, the stage coach driver for many years, attended the dedication in 1939. This marker has been vandalized (and original bronze plaque stolen in late 2015). It was replaced with a granite marker and rededicated on October 5, 2018.

The original 1939 granite base was reused for the 2018 plaque re-dedication. Before being relocated to this overlook site in 2003, the original location of the monument was further north on the west side of the road on a hill between mailboxes 3685 and 3701.
