Regarding W.E.B Du Bois. The cross to the left of the plaque is that of the grave of DuBois' son, Burghardt Gomer DuBois (1897–1899).
Du Bois's wife, Nina Gomer DuBois (1871-1950) and his daughter, Yolande Nina DuBois Williams (1900-1961) are also in Mahaiwe Cemetery, but apparently not in this vicinity.
Du Bois himself (1863-1963) is buried in Ghana, where he spent his final years.
