Inscription. 1st Lt. Irving McDowell, 1st Artillery USA. Later Major General & Commander of Union Forces at the Battle of Bull Run (Manassas). Garrisoned this fort in June 1850.
 
Erected 1961 by Hillsborough County Historical Commission.
