East Garden
The garden's three masonry benches and fountain pedestal were originally part of a Remembrance Garden located near St. Mary's Hall. Formerly named Margaret Brent Hall, St. Mary's Hall was the first campus residence hall planned and constructed for women.
At the 1931 dedication of Margaret Brent Hall, the memorial fountain was dedicated in remembrance of Mrs. Irene Bock Meloy and in honor of her service to the university and community. The fountain was presented by the Prince George's County Federation of Women's Clubs.
The three masonry benches were added to the Remembrance Garden in 1935. Sara Anderson Whitehurst, the first woman member of the University Board of Regents, presented two of the benches in honor of two past presidents of the Maryland Federation of Women's Clubs. The remaining garden bench was presented by Mrs. Gideon N. Stieff in commemoration of the Roland Park Women's Club.
