Louis, a member of the Michel LaFamboise 1832 Hudson's Bay fur brigade, camped nearby while working his way back home in the Willamette region of Oregon. Upon passing away in the night, his Negro slave and traveling companion buried him here with is boots and surveyors chains and then planted the rose bush they were carrying from Virginia.

His was the first known burial in what would become Liberty Cemetery.
