1. Yreka Trail - Down Shasta Valley Marker
Inscription. "Drove 16 miles down Shasta Valley, most of the way good roads, no hills to cross now, but in places the road is stony. Today passed one or two houses. The first I have seen for several months" - James S. Cowden, Oct 11, 1853

Location. 41° 38.727′ N, 122° 21.343′ W. Marker is near Grenada, California, in Siskiyou County. Marker is at the intersection of Harry Cash Road and Aubrey Lane when traveling north on Harry Cash Road. The Marker is on Harry Cash Road about 175 feet north of Aubrey Lane.

Harry Cash Road provides splendid views of Mount Shasta and Shasta Valley.

If you are driving south on I-5 on a clear day, consider taking a forty-mile backroads route between the towns of Yreka and Weed rather than the interstate. (The distance on the interstate is ten miles shorter than this diversion and you can drive much faster, but there are only a few places on the interstate where

Take Route 3 due east from Yreka to Montague, an historic railroad town. Then follow Little Shasta Road southeast to Harry Cash Road then south to US 97.

US 97, which is part of the Volcanic Legacy Scenic Byway, will take you to Weed where you will find an on-ramp to I-5. Touch for map. Marker is in this post office area: Grenada CA 96038, United States of America. Touch for directions.

More about this marker. This marker is located along an original segment of the Yreka Trail and on the south side of Harry Cash Rd. An original trail swale can still be seen about 200 NW of this marker (although on private property). The trail continued northwest and crossed Hart Rd and then followed along Hart Rd, just to the north for a segment of which additional swales can be seen (also on private property). It then meandered northwest to Marker

The summit of Mount Shasta is about eighteen miles from the T-marker.

Trails West, Inc. sells a driving guidebook titled A Guide to the Yreka Trail which provides maps and additional history on the Yreka Trail as it passed through designated marker locations. Purchasing this guidebook prior to visiting the Yreka Trail markers is highly encouraged to gain a better experience of the history of this historic trail.

3. Yreka Trail - Down Shasta Valley Marker
The Yreka Trail continued just to the south side of Harry Cash Rd (left of marker behind the fence). An original trail swale is still visible and located about 200 yards NW of the marker (on private property).
