1. Angus Keith House Marker
Inscription. Angus Keith (1819-1899), a Great Lakes steamship captain, was born on Grosse Ile. In 1850 he purchased this property and later built this house. In 1858, Keith married Isabella Norvell, the daughter of John Norvell, who was one of Michigan's original U.S. senators. Keith's father, William Keith, commanded both naval and merchant ships. Angus Keith sailed the lakes for forty years and operated commercial vessels including lumber carriers for the Peshtigo Lumber Company.
