1. Which Proposed Railroad Built the Line His Committee Was Seeking?
The company that would build the line from San Francisco to New Orleans via Los Angeles, completed in 1883, would be the Southern Pacific Railroad. El Monte itself did not become a significant railroad stop. An electric commuter line provided local railway service to and from Los Angeles until 1950. Today the Metrolink San Bernadino commuter line serves El Monte.
