"[Sharon] made her debut on Broadway in 'Sweet Charity' in January, 1966. Several weeks later she quit to the astonishment of the producers, and [she said], I am much more at peace with myself. When you're a Miss America you feel people expect you to be terribly good at something. I feel that in order to reach that I would have to sacrifice time with my family and I need the warmth and love of my family more than I need the applause of an audience.'"
