1. Elwood Wiggins Marker
Inscription. The son of Lavelle Wiggins, born and raised in El Monte. He joined the Air Corps during World War II and was sent to the Philippines where he was captured by the Japanese. He survived the Battan Death March, where 75,000 American and Filipinos were brutally forced to march 60 miles to prison camps by their captors. He was imprisoned at Camp Cabanatuan, where he died as a Prisoner of War.
