1. John Guess Sr. Marker
Inscription. John Guess, known as the first permanent Anglo-Saxon settler of the area, arrived with his family in the San Gabriel Valley in 1852. He purchased 100 acres known as the Savannah Ranch where they raised alfalfa, hogs, mules, and horses. They lived on Guess Street, named in his honor. He built the first school house in Los Angeles County. It was called Savannah School.
