1. First Baptist Church Marker
Inscription. Organized as mission, New Bethel Church 1839; constituted as church Nov. 14, 1840. First met courthouse at 2nd and Kentucky; 1st building, 300 block Broadway; 2nd and 3rd buildings at 5th and Jefferson. Second building seized by Union army, 1861, for use as hospital during Civil War. Present, 4th, building dedicated May 9, 1965.
 
Erected 1965 by Kentucky Historical Society and Kentucky Department of Highways. (Marker Number 868.)
