Inscription.

Dedicated in the honor of all who have served
in the 509th as a memorial to those valiant
comrades who gave their lives to maintain
peace and freedom.

509th Composite Bomb Group
which became the
509th Bomb Wing

The 509th was activated for the sole purpose of
delivering the atomic bomb. The first A-bombs were
dropped in combat on Japan August 6, Hiroshima
and August 9, Nagasaki in 1945 from B-29 Superforts.
No organization has played a more dynamic role than
the 509th in bringing about a decisive victory
in World War II and maintaining world peace.
