Inscription. The hospital, a cross-shaped structure, was located here, outside the fort walls to reduce the possibility of spreading disease. Its position was in view of the sentries at the main gate and blockhouse. The hospital was partially excavated in 1973 and completed in 1986. This photo shows the log sleepers discovered by the archaeologists. These were filled in with gravel to aid future investigators before the site was backfilled with earth.
